The theater was built in 1910 and was a significant artistic attribute to Long Island and especially St. James, with its celebrated vaudeville performances. The Calderone remained a vaudeville theater until 1929, when "moving pictures" came into vogue, and until 1950 the Calderone was a movie theater. The Calderone will again support the arts with a Fine Art Gallery. In 1985 Natalie and Bernie Weinstein purchased the building and renovated it for Natalie Weinstein Design Associates headquarters. Natalie's reputation as an interior designer has earned her numerous awards, a PBS special, a radio program, a continued relationship with House Magazine and the development of the Home Decorating Club, with a membership of over 15,000. It was home to Natalie Weinstein Design Associates until the firm moved to its flagship location on Lake Avenue in St. James, NY. The theater was the perfect venue for Natalie's creative concept of opening a high end furniture consignment store aptly entitled Uniquely Natalie. To fulfill the needs of a complete interior design presentation, the idea an Art Gallery was conceived.....and so the Calderone Gallery of Fine Art was set in motion. With the Gallery opening this fall, the Calderone will again support the arts in St. James with group exhibitions and receptions. It's just another reason to come back again and again to browse, buy & collect!
